This program was initiated by the NIE, School of Research and Development in the year 2015 with the rolling out process of the newly reformed curriculum. One of the main aims of this program is to help and guide teachers to tackle the day to day challenges that teachers face while implementing the curriculum and most prominently to create a research culture among the school communities.With this emphasis, a series of workshops were held from 2015 to 2016.A total of five workshops were conducted and 234 participants had successfully completed the workshop.

The aim for the year 2017 is to conduct 4 workshops in three regions. Thus present year the first action research workshop was conducted at Raa. Atoll Education Center, Meedhoofrom09th to 11th February 2017.Teachers, leading teachers, and Principals participated in the workshop.A total of 31 participants joined the workshop however 20 participants successfully completed the workshop.

 Objectives of the workshop

Ø  To know what Action Research is and its importance in creating an effective teaching & learning environment

Ø  To understand the process of Action Research and how to design an Action Research

Ø  To distinguish ways to interpret & analyze data

Ø  To develop research culture among Maldivian teachers

Ø  To give opportunities for schools and teachers to present critical issues related to our Education system in various educational platforms; such as conferences.

 

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WORKSHOP

The workshop was conducted within three days for the duration of 15 hours. The sessions were conducted in an activity based manner. Information was given on how to make a good research question, how to collect data’s from classrooms and also the participants were given chance to explore the features of   SPSS software as well as how to enter and analyze a simple data set. The session ended on 11th February at 17:30 hrs with the distribution of certificates to the participants.
